2017 National Distance Learning Week

November 6 - 10, 2017 | Live Online Everyday

Purdue West Lafayette, Purdue Northwest and Indiana University- Purdue University Fort Wayne and Kaplan University are celebrating National Distance Learning Week with a whole week of synchronous and asynchronous events.
Our goal is to embrace Distance Learning by Reaching and Retaining Students through Online Education. To achieve this goal, our campuses will explore several topics and we hope you can join us in the conversations.

Keynote

Teaching in blended and online learning environments: Creating and sustaining communities of inquiry


The purpose of this session is to discuss how to apply the Community of Inquiry (CoI) framework to the design, facilitation, and direction of a blended or online course experience. During this session participants will learn how to:

  • Design and organize a blended or online course or module using the Community of Inquiry (CoI) framework
  • Co-construct facilitation and moderation guidelines for a course or module
  • Develop direction and leadership strategies for a course or module
Dr. Norman Vaughan

Dr. Norman Vaughan

Norman Vaughan, Ph.D. is a Professor in the Department of Education at Mount Royal University in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. He has co-authored the books Teaching in Blended Learning Environments: Creating and Sustaining Communities of Inquiry (2013) and Blended Learning in Higher Education (2008) and he has published a series of articles on blended learning and faculty development. Dr. Vaughan is the Co-founder of the Blended Online Design Network (BOLD), a member of the Community of Inquiry Research Group, the Associate Editor of the International Journal of Mobile and Blended Learning and he is on the Editorial Boards of numerous national and international journals. Support classroom participation with a tool that can be accessed from devices using WiFi or texting. Hotseat is an easy to use discussion and polling tool that encourages class conversation.
